Game Review
In a tightly contested Bundesliga encounter, St. Pauli and Hamburger SV played out a goalless draw on Friday, January 23, 2026. The result was not entirely unexpected given the evenly matched nature of both teams, although fans might have hoped for more attacking flair in this local derby. The match was characterized by a lack of clear-cut chances, with both defenses holding firm. St. Pauli's Mathias Pereira-Lage (GAP -2.2%) and Hamburger SV's Nicolás Capaldo (GAP -2.4%) were instrumental in maintaining their respective defensive shapes, ensuring that neither side could find the breakthrough. St. Pauli's lineup saw no changes from their previous outing, indicating a level of consistency in their approach. In contrast, Hamburger SV made several substitutions during the match, bringing in Albert Sambi Lokonga, Rayan Philippe, Robert Glatzel, Fábio Baldé, and Jean-Luc Dompe to try and inject some energy into their play. However, these changes did not translate into goals. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) data highlights the defensive solidity of both teams, with players like Eric Smith (GAP -2.4%) and Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer (GAP -2.6%) contributing significantly to the defensive efforts. Post-match reactions from both camps suggested a sense of missed opportunity, but also an acknowledgment of the defensive discipline on display. The result leaves both teams in a similar position in the Bundesliga table, with neither gaining significant ground. For St. Pauli, the draw maintains their steady, if unspectacular, form, while Hamburger SV will look to build on this solid defensive performance in their upcoming fixtures. Overall, while the match lacked goals, it was a testament to the tactical discipline and defensive organization of both sides, setting the stage for an intriguing second half of the Bundesliga season.

What is GAP?
What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?
Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.
What is GAP?
GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
